Ronda Matson: Songs

Truth Be Told

(Ronda Matson)

I’m hopin’ you believe all the things that you said,
but it’s like they say.
Your actions speak louder than your words, you know.
At least, they do today.

When times roll ‘round tougher, your heart’s on your sleeve,
but I like it that way.
Now it’s tomorrow and I’m watchin’ you leave.
I don’t think you should stay.

I’d turn away and run, if I could just find the sun.
I’d turn away and be done with you.
If there’s a way, I’ll see. Like wind through the tree,
I’ll turn away and be free of you.

Can’t remember when the stars fell away.
My heart keeps a picture of you.
It holds fast to the day we once had
and can’t know what to do.

My night sky is lonely, my day is a blur,
as the weather turns cold.
Tears in my eyes and shadows behind,
I miss you, truth be told.

I’d turn away and run, if I could just find the sun.
I’d turn away and be done with you.
If there’s a way, I’ll see. Like wind through the tree,
I’ll turn away and be free of you.

It seems, in the end, we can’t ever know,
much as we wish we could.
We can’t hold on once we get past the storm—
not for as long as we should.

I wish I could know when the wind would blow colder,
but the clock’s got a mind of its own.
It’s not like I don’t know it. I watch the dice roll.
These are seeds I have sown.

I’d turn away and run, if I could just find the sun.
I’d turn away and be done with you.
If there’s a way, I’ll see. Like wind through the tree,
I’ll turn away and be free of you.
I'll turn away and be free of you.
